GAINS: Fitness & Self Improvement Since 2012

GAINS started in 2012 as a blog where I (Adam Fisher) wrote about fitness, as I was a trainer just starting out in the industry.

As of today, I’ve been lifting competitively since 2006, working as a one-on-one personal trainer since 2012, and working as an online coach since shortly after that. During that time, I’ve had the pleasure to work with some of the best and brightest in the industry.

At first, I tried to write mostly about the intersection between fitness, mindfulness, fitness mythbusting, and body positivity, as well as my experiences training as a bodybuilder and powerlifter.

That started to change somewhere along the way. I grew up quite a bit. I built a business on this site, lasting through five major moves, multiple continents, paying off my student loans, and lots of day jobs. Sometimes, this site has been my day job. Sometimes, it hasn’t.

Along the way, I wrote so much that I stopped being interested in writing too much more about fitness, and started adding in more general self-improvement topics like personal finance, philosophy, productivity, science, and more.

During this time, I’ve also worked in the video game industry as a game designer, primarily working on mobile games.

I try to maintain a schedule of 1 blog post and 1 YouTube video per week.

Here’s a few things I’ve done in the meantime:

  • I wrote a short free text adventure game about moving to Denmark, Hygge. Consider donating a few dollars if you liked it.

  • I wrote a book series: Better, a collection of books which focus on collecting the best scientific info about being your best self. Check them out.

  • I've been interviewed for Digg, where they said that I'm "impressively large," among many other nice things.

  • I interned for Westside Barbell ("The Strongest Gym In The World") in 2014, where I learned about and trained under the Westside conjugate method.

  • I’ve worked for Stronger By Science, the premier site for science-based strength training information, since 2015.

  • I’ve worked with the diet app MacroFactor as a member of the team since 2022.

I've been published in various sites including:

It's not about what you lose - it's about what you gain.
